WIP: DRIVING

In Norway, you can drive with a valid driving license from any country for up to three months, as long as you are 18 or older. Like the US and most of Europe, Norwegians drive on the right-hand side of the road. There is good infrastructure, with plenty of motorhome parking, camp sites, picnic areas, gas stations, and EV charging stations.

It's easy to rent both camper vans and cars in Norway. It all depends on what vehicle is best suited for your trip. Areyou going camping or staying at a hotel?

Driving from Kristiansand in the south to Bergen in the west takes you on an adventurous trip on the scenic E39 coastal highway. Start by exploring the charming coastal city of Kristiansand, with its beautiful beaches, historic districts, and vibrant cultural scene. Kristiansand is also perfect for kids, with the Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park a mandatory stop.

Continue on the dramatic coastline up to western Norway, where viewsof deep valleys, steep mountains, rushing waterfalls, and beautiful fjords await.

Stavanger is a cozy coastal city, known for its good restaurants and quaint streets. It's a good starting point for exploring beautiful beaches and famous hiking destinations such as Preikestolen, also known as the PulpitRock, and Kjerag in Ryfylke, all accessible by car. For those who want to keep their pulse rate at a resting level, a gondola runs up the mountain right from the train station. At the top, fantastic panoramic views, and Voss's largest restaurant, Hangurstoppen, await. There are also a number of guided tours you can take in the mountains. Voss is just as exciting whether you visit it in winter or summer!

Many would say that Bergen is Norway's most beautiful city (especially if you ask the Bergen locals!). The city is variously known as 'the gateway to the fjords', 'the city between seven mountains', and the 'capital of western Norway'. The charming and vibrant place offers culture, a UNESCO-listed medieval wharf, Bryggen, local seafood, and much more.
